Signing Day Eve Eve

Just two days before the high school class of ‘10 signs their college lives away! Of course, Fourth and Dumb will offer spotty and highly selective coverage of aspects of signing day of interest to us, or, at least, to me.

Can the Gators hold onto all of their high-profile recruits and maintain the overall #1 class? Can FSU pull in a few last-minute five stars, particularly Christian Jones from the high school one mile from my house (Lake Howell in Seminole County, FL, by the way)? Will Kiffy be able to keep WR Kyle Prater and other stars to their oral commitments to USC?  Inquiring minds want to know, and we’ll try to sort it all out on Wednesday night and Thursday.

    oral commitments lol

Do we really have the #1 recruiting class? I hadn’t heard that.

  3. Chris Borglum:

Consensus has Gators as a clear #1 if they hold onto all their commits. Some are saying that if they hold those AND pull in one or more of Seantrel Henderson, Chaz Green, Kyle Prater (potential steal from USC), or some others still thinking about the Gators, it could become one of the best of this decade.

Of course, Texas has made a big recent push with Jackson Jeffcoat (son of former Cowboy Jim Jeffcoat) and Jordan Hicks.

What shocks me about this recruiting class is how well FSU and Auburn are doing. I mean, they had pretty seriously down years. What the hell? Is Jimbo Fisher really that much of a draw?

  5. Chris Borglum:

Yeah, the Fisher mystique confuses me, too–the guy has presided over some notably mediocre offenses since he’s been OC at FSU. But apparently he’s a great recruiter, has been since he recruited all those stars (including JaMarcus Russell) to LSU as OC there. And FSU is still on TV all the time and has big facilities.

As to Auburn, we knew Chizik could recruit, but that he’s doing this good a job (probably a consensus top-five now that they got DE Corey Lemonier today) with the Great Satan presiding over the state.

Yeah, one of the SI guys was giving Auburn the #3 slot in recruiting classes behind Florida and Texas, but I’m sure these things are all very subjective. Still, a little weird.
